Art on The roll
For three summers now, I have been honored to serve as a teaching artist for Art on The Roll, a free community art program presented by Art in Motion along the Lake Wobegon Trail. Each Saturday, artists from a variety of disciplines lead hands-on workshops that invite people of all ages and experience levels to discover the joy of making art.
My workshops are designed to be welcoming, approachable, and rooted in curiosity. Whether participants are stitching their first embroidery project, weaving colorful patterns through plastic canvas, or creating a nature journal inspired by the landscape around them, the goal is the same: to build confidence through creativity while encouraging exploration and personal expression.My workshops are designed to be welcoming, approachable, and rooted in curiosity. I believe art doesn't have to be complicated to be meaningful. By introducing accessible materials and simple techniques, I hope participants leave not only with a finished piece but also with the confidence to continue creating long after the workshop ends. Many of the projects incorporate fiber arts, observation of the natural world, and slow, hands-on making—practices that encourage mindfulness, problem-solving, and connection with both the environment and one another.
Art on A Roll is a wonderful reminder that creativity belongs to everyone. It has been a privilege to share these experiences with families, trail visitors, and community members over the past three years and to see participants discover new skills, support one another, and take pride in what they create.
